The capital of our Guanacaste Province, Liberia, is only a 1 1/2 hour scenic drive. There is a second International Airport in Liberia.and in only another 20 minutes you can be at the Pacific Ocean Beach area of the popular Nicoya Peninsula. Liberia is growing very fast due to the many beach residents and the airport. Many of the residents in this area never find the need to go to the bustling capital city of San Jose with its stressful traffic.
Another very important fact to our health is that the Arenal area has abundant, pure, clean water from artesian wells and cool, fresh air from all the rainforest trees which surround us. Plant life grows profusely here which makes gardening very rewarding. Tropical trees, flowers, orchids, vegetables and fruit trees are seen everywhere making our colorful tropical birds sing their songs happily. Even the monkeys hoot with pleasure living in the forests.
The little mountain/lake town of Arenal has 3000 residents, both Ticos (Costa Rican friendly name) and Gringos (Ex-Pats many of whom have retired permanently here). There is a wonderful shared cooperation between all residents for getting things done through volunteering and having community Benefits/Auctions/Fairs that everybody enjoys while helping each other. The Arenal Community is one of the best in the country on the friendship scale which is important to new residents. Families are close here and friendships develop quickly.
