In the town of Arenal we have very friendly relations between both Costa Ricans (Ticos) and Foreigners (Gringos) so it is easy to make new friends with other retirees, mostly from the US and Canada. There are many available activities to support a healthy lifestyle: pickleball, yoga, water exercise, book clubs, bridge, musician groups, poker, water sports, etc. The restaurants serve a variety of delicious food including vegetarian and vegan, and there is preferred grocery shopping nearby plus an organic store with fresh farm goods and other health products required to have vegetarian or vegan organic lifestyles. Most animals are grass fed so people are healthier here especially since they don’t eat as much processed food as in the States.
The much appreciated climate here is an average 70F. year-round meaning that you do not need a/c or heat. Arenal is a friendly little mountain/lake village of 4000 residents and has a lovely, comfortable climate. The property is well landscaped and stays green year-round, unlike the hot Pacific lowlands.
